Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (1 Jan 1562 Jahr – 1 Jan 1621 Jahr)

Beschreibung:

a Dutch composer, organist, and pedagogue whose work straddled the end of the Renaissance and beginning of the Baroque eras. He was among the first major keyboard composers of Europe, and his work as a teacher helped establish the north German organ tradition. He was chiefly known for improvisation.

Sweelinck taught a number of Germans, and his interest in variations carried through
in the genre known as chorale variations.
a. The melody of the chorale is present throughout, but moves into different
voices.
b. Polyphonic treatment was one possibility, which became recognized as a genre
called chorale partita.
