The Second Great Galactic War was planned to be the final war in Vitiate's plan to eradicate all life in the galaxy to make himself immortal. However, Vitiate's body was struck down by the fabled Hero of Tython, a Jedi Knight of known heroics from the time period. With Vitiate's physical death and the subsequent loss of his direction in the Dark Council, the Sith Empire quickly fell to infighting that allowed the Old Republic to make great gains before the Revanite Crisis and the Zakuulan invasions that followed.
