Judean Revolt (1 Jan 66 Jahr – 1 Jan 70 Jahr)
Beschreibung:
Jewish people in the Land of Israel rebelled against the Roman Empire and established a government based in Jerusalem, led by the high priest of the Temple and the Nasi. This government minted coins that drew on ancient Jewish imagery.
Extremist factions overthrew this government after two years, and also began looting the Temple to fund the rebellion. Infighting between the Jewish rebels continued until the Romans reconquered Jerusalem and destroyed the Second Temple, beginning the Roman Exile.
The final rebels were defeated at Massadah
The rebellion is documented in "The Jewish War" by the historian Josephus, who participated in the rebellion and later defected to the Romans.
