Late Hasmoneans and Herodians (1 Jan 47 Jahr v. Chr. – 1 Jan 44 Jahr)
Beschreibung:
After a period of direct rule by the Roman Republic, the Romans installed a former Hasmonean king as ruler of a semi-independent Judea in the Land of Israel. In 40 BCE, the Roman Senate declared a junior descendant of the Hasmoneans, Herod, king of Judea, beginning a new dynasty.
King Herod built additions to the Temple in Jerusalem but was also seen as a tyrant by the rabbis. King Herod's descendants ruled most of Judea for some years after his death, but the Roman Empire eventually removed their authority and turned Judea into a Roman province.
