Philip was a devout Catholic and married Mary I in which he had control over Spain, England, and Portugal. He was not loved by the people of England or any Protestants for that matter. When Mary died, he tried to marry Elizabeth I but was rejected and sent the Spanish Armada which was defeated by England.
