     collect taxes, “ownership” was regularly 
     rotated

  o Legitimizes the practice of various religions in 
      the Empire
  o Holds “religious debates” with Christian, 
      Muslim, Parsis (Zoroastrians) Jain, Sikh, and 
      Hindu representatives
  o Leads to a “fusion religion” called Din-I-llahi
