China Forces a Stalemate (25 Nov 1950 Jahr – 27 Jul 1953 Jahr)
Beschreibung:
MacArthur leads allied troops to the 38th parallel and attacked the north. They reached the border, the Yalu River.
On November 25, 300,000 Chinese troops attack the Allied troops. The Allies were severely outnumbered so they were forced to retreat.
Now that China has joined the war, it has forced a stalemate. Decisions must be made in the US on how to react.
-One idea was to possibly have to use many more troops and even nuclear weapons. President Truman over ruled both of these possible tactics.
-Truman preferred the method of limited war (war only fought strategically for certain specific goals) but General MacArthur opposed that idea. MacArthur wanted a total victory
The stalemate lasted until 1953
-in the meantime small battles were fought but led to no result.
-Military spending in the US greatly increased. By 1960, military spending took up over half of the federal budget.
