Culture - The fourth crusade's goal was to win back the holy land of Jerusalem. Instead of marching across the land, they decided to reach Egypt by sea. The Crusaders ravaged Constantinople, and the crusades failed. The idea of crusades inspired dreams of conquest of the eastern Mediterranean in Europe until the 16 century.
