Japanese Invasion of Korea (23 Mai 1592 Jahr – 16 Dez 1598 Jahr)

After the unification of Japan under Toyotomi Hideyoshi, he would lead an attempt to create a larger empire by invading Joseon Korea.

This war would be successful at first, pushing the Korean government all the way to Busan and beyond until a series of disastrous naval battles against Admiral Yi-Sun Sin would result in the invading forces stripped of reinforcements and supplies.

There had been a short truce between 1594-1596, then a second invasion had followed in 1597 and would not stop until Japan would sue for peace.

During this war, Toyotomi Hideyoshi would die of natural causes. His son, Toyotomi Hideyori, was still young at the time of Hideyoshi's death so a council of 5 had been set up to rule as a regent until Hideyori had come to age. Though this would only last until 1600 after the defeat in the Battle of Sekigahara, where Tokugawa Ieyasu would displace Hideyori as the successor shogun and establish the Tokugawa Clan as the next shogunate
