Tang Dynasty is a dynasty in Chinese history, with 23 emperors in 289 years. It was founded by Li Yuan, Emperor Gaozu of Tang Dynasty. Li Hu, the ancestor of Li Yuan, was one of the eight pillar states in the Western Wei Dynasty of the southern and Northern Dynasties, and was granted the title of the Duke of Tang. Li Yuan, a descendant of Li Yuan, remained in Jinyang (now Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province) during the Sui Dynasty. Li Yuan, the Duke of the Tang Dynasty, started his army in Jinyang in 617. He conquered Chang'an in 618, accepted the throne of Yang Yu, Emperor Gong of the Sui Dynasty, and established the Tang Dynasty for the emperor Gaozu of the Tang Dynasty.
