Graffiti Theatre Company was established in 1984 by Emile Fitzgibbon. They began with the original aim of educating young people through theatre. The company has a focused audience ranging from birth to adults. Since its start-up the company has expanded and toured with drama programmes. In more recent times they have decided to extent their approach to include theatre through the Irish language. The success of the work is evident from the rapid take-up of both theatre tours and drama programmes.
They use Drama in Education practices in workshops. By combining techniques associated with youth theatre while hoping to enhance personal development and educational aspirations. Graffiti use their own experiences and analysis on the effectiveness of their practice. They use reception theory. This is having reflective practitioners who document, question and develop the validity of the work they do. Graffiti adjust their practices based on who they work with e.g. children who have emigrated or have linguistic difficulties.
