Inventions: Archimedes Screw, Death Ray, hydrostatics, and the Archimedes Claw (1 Jan 263 Jahr v. Chr. – 1 Jan 212 Jahr v. Chr.)

Beschreibung:

Archimedes was a Greek mathematician credited with many advancements in Calculus and Geometry. Although actual dates cannot be confirmed, it is believed that Archimedes's body of work was completed during this time frame. A study of Archimedes would show a significant contribution to the fields of Mathematics, Astronomy, and Physics. The influence of Archimedes theories spans centuries and boasts some of the foremost innovators in their fields. Through his nine extant treatises, we have attributed mathematical formulas such as those used for surface area (S = 4πr2) and volume (V = 4/3πr3) to him (Toomer 2017). The Archimedes Screw is a major contribution made by Archimedes that is still in use today. While the original design was specific to the moving of water up from one place to another, improvement to the original design by using it in the reverse has increased its usefulness to allow it to work as a turbine to generate electricity.
"In terms of power output, the very smallest Archimedean screws can produce as little as 5 kW, and the largest 500 kW."(renewablesfirst.co.uk).
