Birmingham Protests/ Bull Connor (3 Apr 1963 Jahr – 10 Mai 1963 Jahr)

Beschreibung:

Activists in Birmingham, Alabama launched Project C which was a series of sit-ins, boycotts, and marches on City Hall, but these events turned violent. This movement involved the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights, Martin Luther King Jr., the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. The major cause of these protests was the defeat of Eugene "Bull" Connor in the mayor election by Albert Boutwell. Bull Connor was determined to keep the city extremely segregated and used the police force to try to quell the demonstrators as the protests. The major effect of these protests was the positive effect it had on MLK's reputation, forced desegregation in Birmingham and helped create the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
