Justin Martyr was one of the earliest apologists for the Christian church. While many believers kept their faith in secret, or worse, renounced it, Martyr took up the task of showing that Christianity was not only a legitimate religion, but the only legitimate religion. He sought to show that Christianity was not a new, rebellious religion, but an older, greater and truer religion than any other in the Roman empire in his writings named "First Apology".
