After the end of the Seven Years war the Ottawa chief Pontiac saw that the his people's position grew ever more precarious. Sensing this, he tried to completely drive the British out of the Ohio country and mostly succeeded having destroyed all but three forts west of the Appalachians. This event was unfavorable for the colonists because the British lost control of the Ohio river valley which was land meant for colonial expansion.
