Silk in Rome under Augustus (1 Jan 27 Jahr v. Chr. – 1 Jan 14 Jahr)
Beschreibung:
By the time of Augustus's reign in Rome, trade between China and the west had been firmly established. Silk was the most sought-after commodity in Greece, Egypt, and most notably in Rome. Ironically, Augustus had used his dissenting opinion on silk clothing to denounce his adversaries, namely Cleopatra VII (69-30BCE) and Mark Antony (83-30BCE), who both favored Chinese silk. Augustus triumphed over the two, however, he was not able to do anything to curtail the popularity silk.
