Seleucid-Parthian Wars (1 Jan 238 Jahr v. Chr. – 1 Jan 129 Jahr)

Beschreibung:

Between 171-138BCE, Mithridates I of Parthia campaigned to expand and consolidate his kingdom in Mesopotamia. The Seleucid King Antiochus VII Sidetes (138-129BCE) opposed this expansion and, also wishing revenge for the death of his brother, Demetrius, waged war against the Parthian forces of Phrates II, Mithridates successor. The Parthians ultimately defeated and killed Antiochus at the Battle of Ecbatana in 129BCE. Following the defeat of Antiochus, Mesopotamia came under Parthian rule. With this came control of the Silk Road, being major hub between the west and the east. The Parthians then became the central intermediaries between China and the west.
