This was the time following the death of Ivan IV's heirless successor. Different nobles and relatives competed for the throne as a Cossack/peasant revolt began under the leadership of Ivan Bolotnikov. It was brutally suppressed by the nobles who elected Michael Romanov tsar and ended this period.
