1763 End of French and Indian War The British won the war, but they fell into debt because of it
1763 Proclamation of 1763 This restricted the Americans from exploring past the Appalachian Mountains
1765 Stamp Act This put taxes on printed materials. It was seen as a way for the British to gain money
1767 Townshend Act It taxed lead, glass, paint, paper, and tea imports. People saw it as Great Britain abusing their power to tax the colonies.
March 5th, 1770 Boston Massacre The colonial protest was attacked by soldiers. 5 colonists died.
1773 Tea Act It gave the British East India Company control over tea sales in the colonies. The colonies never agreed.
December 16th, 1773 Boston Tea Party The Sons of Liberty and Samuel Adams were disguised as Mohawk Indians and threw 342 chests of tea overboard as protest for the Townshend Act and the Tea Act.
1774 Intolerable Acts British response to the Boston Tea Party. It stationed an army at Boston and allowed soldiers to live in unoccupied buildings for free. Americans saw this as the British taking away their rights.
1774 First Continental Congress Taxation without representation. Discussed that the colonies were being taxed without getting to have a say in the government.
April 19th, 1775 Battle of Lexington and Concord It was the start of the revolution. The local Massachusetts militia fought the British army.
June 17th, 1775 Battle of Bunker Hill The Colonial army lost, but it inspired them to fight the war.
July 4th, 1776 Declaration of Independence America declares their independence from Great Britain to pursue life, liberty, and happiness.
September 28th, 1781 Battle of Yorktown 14000 colonial troops attack the British army causing the British to surrender.
1777-1778 Winter at Valley Forge For 6 months, George Washington and his troops train to fight the British.
September 3rd, 1783 Treaty of Paris End of American Revolution. The country of America is recgonized by the British.
