Granville T. Woods was born on April 23, 1856, in Columbus, Ohio.
During his 20's he enrolled in a technical college for two years and then moved back to Ohio.
Woods invented the "induction telegraph."
In 1880 he settled in Cincinnati, Ohio.
A year later he invented a system for overhead electric conducting that helped power locomotives.
By 1889, Woods filed his first patent or license for an improved steam-boiler furnace.
Woods invented the power pick-up device.
Woods passed away on January 30, 1910 in New York City at age 53 from a stroke.
Perioden
Thomas Edison filed a lawsuit against Woods claiming the invention. Edison lost and then asked Woods to partner with him. Woods decline and this is how he got his nickname "Black Edison" 1887
He received patents or licenses for an improved air-brake system.
