The Decline of the Second Wave:
Over this time period
several factions emerged
from the originally unified
second wave and as a
result the movement
slowly splintered and faded.Black women start a movement
called womanism
that aligns with the feminist movement
but also advocates for the end of forced
sterilization of people of color
and people with disabilities.The Equal Pay Act
was written into law.
In Theory this would outlaw
the Gender pay gap.The Supreme Court case of Roe vs. Wade
that addressed whether or not
a state law that banned abortion was
unconstitutional and resulted in
the legalization of abortion
in many circumstances.The Start of the Second Wave:
Author Betty Friedman
creates the Feminine
Mystique and because
of how many copies were
sold the book got people
talking, this ultimately
sparked the second wave.Release of "The Second Sex"
by Simone de Beauvoir in France.
.The birth of Betty Friedan.Feminism is the advocacy for women's
rights on the basis of equality. A common
misconception about feminism is that it
states that the female sex as fundamentally
better and that the male sex is lesser,
whereas it is truly about equality, it is about not letting gender put a
limit on something everyone should be allowed to do.
To us feminism is when people of any sex, age, or
background advocate for equality between
the genders and we chose the second wave.
