On 29 July 1975 at 20N 137E, a tropical disturbance emerged from a trough in the Philippine Sea.On 31 July 1975, the tropical disturbance rapidly developed into a tropical storm as it moved northwest.The tropical disturbance underwent fiery development, reaching typhoon intensity on 1 August, creating Typhoon Nina.On 1 August, Typhoon Nina's maximum surface wind speeds increased from 120 km/h to 240 km/h (75 mph to 150 mph).On 2 August, Typhoon Nina achieved maximum wind speeds 368 kilometres (230 miles) east of Taiwan.On 2 August, Typhoon Nina attained a peak intensity of 185 km/h (115 mph).Typhoon Nina made its initial landfall in Taiwan at 0600 UTC on 3 August.On 3 August, Typhoon Nina had maximum surface winds of 184 km/h (115 mph).In the afternoon on 3 August, much of the typhoon’s power was lost as it moved across Taiwan’s central mountain range. The storm brought heavy rainfall as it stalled over Henan for three days. Approximately 1,060 millimetres (41.7 inches) of rain fell during August 5-8.
