President Barack Obama approves a major addition to the US army in Afghanistan, Bowe Bergdahl now is eligible for the Army and applies.
Bowe Bergdahl is captured after leaving his post, reportedly heading towards FOB Sharana.
The Taliban release their first video of Bowe. In the video , Bowe says: "Please, please bring us home so that we can be back where we belong and not over here, wasting our time and our lives and our precious life that we could be using back in our own country."

Senator Kelly Ayotte sends a letter to Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel. "This June will mark five years since Bowe Bergdahl was captured by the Taliban. After so long in captivity, Department of Defense must redouble its efforts to find Sergeant Bergdahl and return him safely to his family."
Bowe Bergdahl is released to the US Special Forces in exchange for 5 imprisoned Taliban commanders. Bergdahl is taken to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany.
