Land Ordinance of 1785 A way to divide up new land and help pay off the debt from war A system for surveying and dividing western lands 36 miles split into 36 lots (640 acres each) 1 lot for a public school / 4 lots given to vets / Rest sold to public
Northwest Ordinance of 1787 Established the Northwest Territory Present day Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Minnesota, Wisconsin Provided a system for bringing new states into the Union
Farmer’s Revolt August 1786 Farmers in three counties started a revolt where they closed down the courts With the courts shut down, no one’s farm could be taken Daniel Shay
Rebellion was defeated by January 1787 Many were sent to prison - 15 sentenced to debt, however state released most of the farmers, because many in the state agreed with them .
