1 Jan 1809 Jahr - Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-Flat Major, Op. 73

Beschreibung:

Year:1809
Also known as the “Emperor” concerto, this piece by Beethoven is one of the most important compositions as it marked a key point where his music would take a turn. Due to his growing deafness at the time, it would reach its worst for Beethoven and what affected what instruments he could play. “By 1809, Beethoven had grown too deaf to perform at the piano, and perhaps for that reason the “Emperor” was his final piano concerto” (Riphil, paragraph 3). This piece also connects to Beethoven’s view of Napoleon because despite Beethoven admiring how Napoleon brought order to the chaos of the French revolution however, Napoleon in 1804 declared himself Emperor of France, Beethoven was outraged and according to Alexander Lee stated “he is no more than a common mortal! Now he, too, will tread underfoot all the rights of man [and] indulge only his ambition; now he will think himself superior to all men [and] become a tyrant!’ Snatching up a pen, Beethoven then strode over to the score and scribbled out the title so violently that he tore through the paper.” (Lee, paragraph 3). The piece is structured in three movements and is a concerto. An interesting part of this piece is in 20:57 just about at the end of the first movement, the piano notes sound like they are running as the other instruments chase it. As well as the loud dynamics that go quiet and after the first movement and pick up at the end.
