This was the first case to ever discuss gay rights at the Supreme Court level. Michael Hardwick was charged with sodomy after engaging in sex with another man in his home. The Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of anti-sodomy laws in a 5-4 decision, denying sodomy was protected under the Constitution's privacy laws.
