By 1.5 million years ago, more advanced tools like axes and cleavers were in use. DNA extracted from ancient artifacts, such as a deer tooth pendant from Denisova, reveals genetic links between early toolmakers and Homo sapiens, showing that they were responsible for certain tool traditions around 45,000 years ago.
