Vasco da Gama (c. 1460–1524) was a Portuguese explorer who played an important role in opening up the sea route from Europe to India, marking an important event the Age of Discovery. He is best known for being the first European to sail directly from Portugal to India by rounding the southern tip of Africa.
The departure for Eastern lands took place on July 8, 1497, from Restelo beach in Belém.
The fleet was made up of two ships and a caravel.
After a long journey and crossing many terrorities like the cape of good hope,
the discovery of the sea route to India had been made and the project that had taken so
long to study and plan had come to an end with great success.
