En 620/1224, Abū Zayd et Yaḥyā se sont affrontés lors d’une grande bataille près de Tunis. Les Almohades en sont sortis victorieux, notamment grâce à l’aide précieuse des Berbères de la tribu Hawwāra, qui se sont particulièrement distingués au combat.
