12 Okt 1976 Jahr - Patricia Anne "Patti" Tigard HOMICIDE

Beschreibung:

Patricia Ann(e) Tigard was born in Sacramento, CA on February 15, 1958 to parents Mary Eleanor Bergman (nee Canon) and Beverley Finley Tigard. It was both of the parents' second marriages. Eleanor (she went by her middle name) and Beverley separated by 1961, when Patricia was three years old); that year Beverley married a woman named Virginia Pirrone/Garcia; he possibly also remarried again in 1968, then again to a woman named Bertie L Frye in 1975.

In October 1970 Patricia's mother Eleanor died in a car crash in Medford, Jackson County, OR. After her mother's death, Patricia, then-12 years

On Tuesday, October 12, 1976, Caltrans employees working in a construction zone 4mi east of Gasquet, CA discovered the body of a white female adjacent to Highway 199.

On Friday, October 15, the Del Norte County Sheriff's Department announced that the body had been identified through dental charts as that of Patricia Anne Tigard, an 18-year-old white girl who lived in the Crescent City area. She had disappeared in the first week of October. Her FindAGrave page lists her date of death as October 1, 1976.

Patricia's body was badly decomposed when found. An autopsy was conducted on October 13, the day after she was found, and the results were made public the week of Friday, December 24, 1976. The official cause of death was undetermined.

Patricia's mother was Mary Eleanor Canon, who married Frank Robert "Bobby" Bergman in May 1949. They split at some point, and in about 1956 Eleanor (she went by her middle name) married Beverley Finley Tigard; it was Beverley's second marriage as well. Together they had Patricia.

Patricia's mother Mary Eleanor Canon had passed away in 1970. According to the aforementioned Ancestry profile, it seems that Patricia had an infant son at the time of her death. Beverley Finley Tigard died in 2002.

On October 6, 2019, the Lost Girl's Blog posted an article about Tamara Lee Tigard, fka "Lime Lady", who was found murdered in OK in April 1980, and went unidentified until January 2020. Tamara was born in CA in 1959 and later moved to Las Vegas. She was a veteran of the US Army. She went missing near her home in LV, and was found shot to death in OK. Tamara's parents passed away in the 2000s and her sister passed away in 2010. According to the Lost Girl's Blog, which updated the article upon Tamara's identification, the only people who could be notified of Tamara's identification were second cousins. It is unclear if Tamara is related to Patricia in any capacity, but it's interesting to note that Tamara was born in CA in 1959, while Patricia was born in ~1958 and was from CA, and they both have the same last name.

At 12:06am on April 16, 2021, a user under the name Tom Darby commented on the Lost Girl's Blog article. He stated, "I am researching this case as I know her second cousin. Oddly, her cousin and I have been researching another Tigard cold case. In 1976, Patricia Ann Tigard was found murdered along Hwy 199. I went to school with Patti and while I’m certain I know who her murderer is, I am not allowed to say legally."

Patricia is featured alongside Sherry Lynn Smith, Vicki Schneider, Karen Fischer, Susan Lori Dye, Janet Lee Bowman, Andrea DeLaRoute, Debbie Sloan, and others on the website for the amateur podcast Ghosts of the Lost Coast, which is about the crimes of suspected serial killer John Annibel.

I found out about Patricia's case from the website dedicated to the amateur podcast Ghosts of the Lost Coast, which is about the possible crimes of suspected serial killer John Annibel. The website also features the cases of Susan Lori Dye, Deryl Edward Coen, and the "Humboldt Four": Sherry Lynn Smith, Janet Lee Bowman, Karen Fischer, and Vicki Schneider. Of all of the aforementioned murders, John Annibel has only been convicted of that of Debbie Sloan and officially named as a suspect in those of Andrea LaDeRoute and Sherry Lynn Smith.

It should be noted that the website gets some basic things wrong about the cases featured on it: for example, Andrea LaDeRoute's surname is misspelled as DeLaRoute, and a photo of Debbie Sloan's daughter Rachel is used in place of a photo of Debbie. Furthermore, other than the short summaries of each case on the main page, the site doesn't actually host any articles, links to sources, audio files, or ways to listen to the podcast. I am not using the website as a source for any of these cases; I am simply linking it because it is how I found out about Patricia's murder.

The Crescent City/Del Norte Triplicate newspaper articles are only available through the Ancestry links. There are no other archived clippings of that newspaper from the appropriate time span online. The Ancestry user who uploaded the photos and scans of the articles did not provide information regarding the dates of publication for all but one of them; I have used context clues within the articles to try to date them myself. From online sources I could find that the paper published on Wednesdays and/or Fridays.
