Joyce (19yo) & Johnny (20yo) were killed by a sniper while strolling on a patio walk/area of the Silver Spray apartments at 5116 Narragansett Ave, overlooking the sea in Ocean Beach, San Diego. They were shot from a distance at first. The killer shot from the cliff 5 times, then went down to shoot them once in the head each at close range. Joyce was shot in left side of the back, left arm, & back of the head; she died instantly from the headshot. Johnny was shot behind the left ear; right upper temple; left thigh; and left side of the back. He died two hours later in a hospital.

They were shot with a .22 caliber weapon. There is speculation/confirmation (because I forget where I found this detail) that the weapon was a .22 Remington Arms Model 550-1 rifle. The killer took Johnny's wallet and Timex watch. There was a report that a man was seen running on Del Monte Ave at 8:16pm, 1min after the earliest estimates of the murders (8:15pm)
