1 Mai 2001 Jahr - 3G was released in Japan in October of 2001. 3G was available in May of 2001 as a pre-release. The first network to go live with 3G was by SK Telecom in South Korea in January 2002. 3G has a theoretical maximum data rate of 21.1 Mbit/s for HSPA+. In India, on 11 December 2008, the first 3G mobile and internet services were launched by BSNL.
