The Election of 1824 saw Andrew Jackson run for office against John Quincy Adams, both of whom members of the Democratic-Republican party. The election ended in an incredibly close outcome, with Congress deciding in favor of Adams. The election of 1824 proved to be monumental in that its outcome led to the D-Rs splitting into the populist Democratic Party and the Whigs, with Jackson taking the helm of the Democrats and Adams the Whigs.
