Johnny Depp's star on The Hollywood Walk Of Fame is defaced by vandal with profanity

By KEVIN KAYHART

Johnny Depp first endeared himself to legions of fans in the classic horror film Nightmare On Elm Street and the television series 21 Jump Street in the 1980s.

But after reaching reaching mega-stardom status with roles in artsy films and the Pirates Of The Carribean franchise, Depp has seen his star fall a bit in recent years, in the wake of negative press that includes accusations of domestic abuse during his marriage to ex-wife Amber Heard.

And now some of that backlash has played out for fans, tourists and casual passer-byes to see when someone defaced his star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame with profanity.

Depp's star, which was unveiled in 1999, had three words scribbled on it in what appears to be a black marker.

Someone wrote 'phoney' [phony] just above his name and the curse words 'a** and b****' in-between his name and the gold film emblem.

At this point it appears the star, which sits at 7020 Hollywood Boulevard near Orange Drive, was defaced sometime on Thursday, September 26.

Deep has been described by many as one of the most versatile and prolific actors of his generation.

He was nominated for an Academy Award For Best Actor for his roles in Pirates Of The Carribean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl (2003), Finding Neverland (2004) and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street (2007).

His long list of memorable roles has given him the title of third highest-grossing actor in the world, as films featuring Depp have grossed over $3.7 billion in the US and more than $10 billion worldwide.

But in recent years, the Kentucky native, 56, has been dogged by his volatile marriage and divorce from Aqauman co-star Amber Heard, in which both parties accused each of of physical and emotional abuse.

There has also been a flurry of lawsuits, the hiring and firing of managers and lawyers who have sued him claiming broken contracts and unpaid fees, and accusations of epic spending that has reportedly caused him some major financial problems.

In recent weeks, Deep was out promoting his latest hotly-anticipated film, Waiting For The Barbarians at the Venice Film Festival September 6.

His upcoming drama film Minamata, which is currently in post-production, is slated to be released in 2020.
