August 28, 2010 (Day 4):

- Lincoln, Nebraska is overrun. Survivors are advised to evacuate to Nebraska State University. Professor Leo Bennett attempts to take his wife, Kari, and their daughters, Iris and Hope, to the NSU where he works; and where his adopted son, Felix, is currently staying.
- A passenger plane full of the undead flying over Lincoln is shot down by a fighter aircraft to stop the spread of the virus. The plane crashes in the streets of Lincoln, separating the family.
- While trying to take a pick-up truck, Kari Bennett is accidentally shot by Amelia Ortiz, wanting the truck for herself to find her family. Hope then retaliates by aiming but accidentally shooting the pregnant woman. Hope reunites with her family, but lies that their mother was devoured by the undead.
- This night is then referred to as "The Night The Sky Fell" or "N.S.F."
