The United States dropped an atomic bomb, killing around 70,000 to 80,000 people. Harry Truman decided to drop the bomb due to the Japanese not knowing whether or not they wanted to surrender or keep fighting. This was also a way to get back to Japan for Pearl Harbor in 1941. Many people say the atomic bombing of Hiroshima led the Cold War to begin or shaped how it started.
