13 Jun 1789 Jahr - Causes of the French Revolution
Beschreibung:
This revolution was highly influenced by ideas from Enlightenment thinkers and the outcome of the American Revolution. Earlier in the year, King Louis XVI had summoned a meeting to discuss the urgency of raising taxes, except that the country was already in deep debt due to his foreign spending. There was a group called the Estates General to meet with the king, except the largest population (the Third Estate) was not fairly represented and it broke away from the Estates General and called itself the "National Assembly" in June 1789. Later that month, they stormed the Bastille and spread revolution to peasants in the countryside. The National Assembly then created the "Declaration of the Rights of Man" which requested equality and citizenship for all men.
