Operation cartwheel was the name that they used for the bombardment. They spent a long time on that little island fighting the Japanese. He sent messages and learned information that would have been top secret. They spent the first day bombing the beach and getting the equipment off the landing craft. It was hard work on that island but hey pushed through and even got to celebrate the marine corps birthday. He regrets not telling everybody that it was his birthday as well because he did not get ay of the cake. He got a letter from his parents and new orders.
