2 Jan 1492 Jahr - Reconquista

Beschreibung:

Isabella and Ferdinand of Spain, at the time a brand new nation, ruled with iron fists. In an attempt to make their conglomerate of different lands more culturally and religiously cohesive, they set out on the Reconquista in 1492. They persecuted the Jews and conversos, Christian descendants of Jews converted to Christianity, and forced them out of the nation. They also forced the Muslims of the nation to convert or leave the country altogether. They also imposed heavy taxes, eventually emerging as the strongest nation in Europe.
This was really the end of the Reconquista, though- as it was a fight to take Spain back from Muslims. Technically started like 8th century CE.
The date in question is the end of the Granada War, a war between Isabella and Ferdinand and the Nasrid Dynasty's Emirate of Granada. Granada was defeated and annexed by Castile, ending Islamic rule on the Iberian peninsula. (Treaty of Granada signed on Nov. 25 '91 as a provisional surrender, not fully realized till January-- terms not too shabby for Muslims).
