This declaration was a charter of the basic freedoms. It contained ideas that inspired the French Revolution. The declaration generally stated that “men are born and remain free and equal in rights”. There are seventeen articles that are part of this declaration. These articles all relate to this general statement. One example is article 1 which is specific to rights of liberty such as owning private property and and the right to resist oppression. Another example is article 11 which states freedom of speech. The Declaration of the Rights of Man was a political attack on the monarchy and brought France another step towards a new constitution.
