Completely American and free of religious orientation. This was a huge leap from the first high school in America in 1635. Focusing more on what the country needed to progress. Teaching math, navigation, astronomy, bookkeeping, logic, and rhetoric. Not only this but both boys and girls attended being a huge step forward for women in the educational system. Students being able to select courses from the options given created the electives and alternate programs that exist today at the secondary level.
