Having failed to conclude a treaty in 1947 and the two world powers having different interests, Germany and Berlin was divided into 4 occupation zones (later the US got the parts of France, England). Stalin demanded the whole of Berlin but Truman refused. Stalin imposed a blockade on it which left 2,5-3 million people without resources. After 10 months of airlift delivery, the blockade was uplifted.
