The 13 American colonies declared they were going to form a new country totally independent from Great Britain. The declaration committee included Thomas Jefferson Benjamin Franklin ,John Adams, Roger Sherman and Robert R. Livingston. The continental congress adopted this important document on july 4, 1776. That is when we celebrate independence Day.
