Beschreibung:
The Pelagian Controversy began with the teachings of the theologian Pelagius (CE 354-418+) who was a British monk. His teachings emphasized that humans have free will to strive for and achieve perfection. Consequently, his beliefs also rejected the idea of original sin. This idea took hold in Britain and threatened the beliefs of the Church in Rome. Augustine of Hippo argued extensively against the Pelagian ideas and in 417, Pope Innocent I excommunicated Pelagius. beyond 418, Pelagius's fate is unknown, but his ideas lived on as heresy for the Church.
