20 Jul 1789 Jahr - The Great Fear in the countryside
Beschreibung:
The Great Fear, similar to the storming of the Bastille, was caused by dissatisfaction with taxes and treatment of the lower classes in France. The Great Fear was the panic among members of the Third Estate, specifically those in rural areas. The people had been seized by revolutionary fervor and had rose up against their feudal lords, attacking and ransacking manors. In the aftermath of this they feared retaliation by the lords, specifically that they would hire mercenaries to take revenge on the people that had attacked them. The Great Fear inflamed the revolutionary spirit among the people, causing them to rise up in violence even more.
