He was a Christian Monk and theologian in the 5th Century. He is often associated with formation of monastic communities in the Eastern and Western Christian traditions. He contributed in the understanding of weariness or distress of heart regarding Acedia. His description of Acedia impacted medieval Christian world. He introduced his version of the cardinal sins (Jackson, 1985).
