6 März 1857 Jahr - Dred Scott vs. Sanford
Beschreibung:
Dred Scott vs. Sanford is a court case where Scott sued his master for moving to a free state, and keeping him as a slave. Dred Scott was a slave of Peter Blow's. Scott's owner moved from Missouri, a slave state, to Illinois, a free state, then to Wisconsin, a free state. The case was in Saint Louis Circuit Court. The case was argued first in 1856, but wasn't decided until March 6, 1857. Dred Scott lost the case, making it very significant to the black activist, for it was used a fuel to the fire. It was significant because it established enslaved people as non citizens of the United States, which means they get no protection from the federal government, but rather as property of their owner. This is a major set back in all black activist because it took away more humanity towards the enslaved people.
