1 Jan 79 Jahr - Pompeii

Beschreibung:

In 79 AD the volcanic mountain Vesuvius erupted, burying the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum under piles of molten ash, ultimately preserving them for centuries. Among those at the scene is the historian and chronicler Pliny the Elder. After arranging for the rescue of the survivors by the fleet, he would personally attempt to rescue friends of his who had been trapped. After being told it was too dangerous to proceed he reportedly said "Fortune favours the brave". Pliny the Elder would ultimately die in this attempt, likely from toxic fumes from the eruption.

By the end, 100,000 times the thermal energy of the atomic bombings of Japan in 1945 had been released.
