The Battle of Vimy Ridge was considered Canada’s pride during the war effort. The battle was 3 days long, resulting in a convincing victory for the Canadian military. The Canadians utilized complex strategies to flank and capture a vital strategic position for the British army. When the news of Canada’s success in the battle reached the home front celebrations erupted, creating immense national pride amongst Canadian citizens. 11,000 of the 15,000 Canadian troops who fought in the battle were killed in the heroic victory, causing a monument to be constructed. This created progress for Canada as it increased national pride, earned Canada respect on a global stage, and created a sense of independence throughout society.
