Before the outbreak of the imminent WW2, Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union decided to create a pact that forbade them from attacking each other for the next ten years. Hitler needed this pact so he could invade Poland without any interventions from Soviets, and Stalin needed it so he could rebuild his army for the upcoming war. This pact would be broken two years later, however, after Hitler attacks the Soviet Union in 1941.
